There is / are 〜. 基本編②

今回からは、
「There is / are 〜」についての基本編の②です。
今回は、wh疑問詞との組み合わせや、助動詞を加えた問題に挑戦です。

※最初の解説の部分は、
「語順が全て(解説だけ)」のカテゴリーの「There is/are 〜.」と同じです。
既に、目を通したことのある方は、この解説を飛ばして、
直接問題に挑戦してみてください。

There is 〜. の文の語順

There is 〜. の文の there は、
「そこに・そこで」という副詞ではありません。

There is / are 〜. という形で、
👉【「新情報」を、話題に引っ張り込む文型】と押さえましょう。

この文型は、次のような語順で表現します。

There is / are

[共有していない]新情報

「場所」を表す言葉

「時」を表す言葉

※ There is / are の is / are は、
[共有していない]新情報が、「単数」か「複数」かで決まります。
（新情報が、実質的な主語なのです。）
・There is an egg in the box.
「箱に卵が1個あります。」

▶︎”an egg” が「単数」なので、”There is” と is になります。
・There are a lot of people there today.
「今日そこにたくさんの人がいます。」
▶︎”a lot of people” が「複数」なので、”There are” と are になります。
▶︎下線の there は「場所を表す言葉」の there で「そこに」という意味です。

There is / are 〜. の be動詞 ( is / are ) は、
次に来る「新情報（主語）」の「単数」か「複数」で決まる

There is 〜. 文の否定文、疑問文

この文の基本形では、
be動詞 ( is, are / was, were )が用いられるので、
否定文、疑問文も be動詞の文と同じように作ります。

否定文：be動詞の後ろに not を置く

👉 be動詞の否定文は、その後ろに not を置くことによって、
「〜ではない」という文を作ることができます。

・There is an apple in the box.
▶︎【否定文】There is not (isn’t) an apple in the box.
「箱にリンゴはありません。」

・There are five pencils in my pencil case.
▶︎【否定文】There are not (aren’t) five pencils in my pencil case.
「私の筆箱には５本の鉛筆はありません。」

疑問文：be動詞を文頭に持ってくる

👉 be動詞の疑問文は、be動詞を文頭に持ってくることによって
「〜ですか」という文を作ることができます。

・There is an egg in the box.
▶︎【疑問文】Is there an egg in the box?
▶︎【答え方】Yes, there is. / No, there isn’t.
「箱の中に卵がありますか。」-「はい、あります。/ いいえ、ありません。」

・There are a lot of people there.
▶︎【疑問文】Are there a lot of people there?
▶︎【答え方】Yes, there are. / No, there aren’t.
「そこにたくさんの人がいますか。」- 「はい、います。/ いいえ、いません。」

◎「答え方」について。
be動詞が文頭に来るので、
Be動詞＋ there 〜？の形になります。
答える時は、この Be動詞＋there の部分の順番をひっくり返して、
Yes, there ＋be動詞. / No, there ＋be動詞 not. の形になります。

今回は、この基本を押さえた上で問題に挑戦しましょう。
